THE INGLORIOUS BASTARDS...............

The inglorious Bastards......... When the history of the Nigerian hip hop music is finally put to paper. Tu Face Idibia will go down as one of the greatest. If not arguably the greatest of the era. With his song African Queen, he inadvertently transformed the genre into more than just radio play. To the frenzied money making industry that it is today. Making millionaires, out of crooners like Dbanj, P Square, Whizz kid, Don Jazzy, just to name but a few. African hip hop can now compete favorably with the very best around the world. Thanks to Tu Face Idibia- Yessoo! Last week, the Superstar finally found the girl of his dream and jumped the broom. A funny thing happened on the day of his wedding. His Excellency, Sir (Dr.) Godswill Akpabio, CON, host Governor, gave the musician and his bride, Annie Macaulay, two Toyota Prado SUVs as wedding gift. The Government of Akwa Ibom State ( home state of Mrs. Idibia), will also pay for the honeymoon of the couple to The United Arab Emirates. They will not be traveling alone; 29 delegates from the State Government will be part of the entourage. The profligacy did not stop there. The Akwa Ibom Government, through Akpabio, nicknamed "the uncommon transformer", will open the State's treasury to bankroll an all expenses paid White wedding, slated for March 23, in Dubai. Believers in our Democracy, like my dear friend Evbo-abel Ogoigbe, mock skeptics like me. For we are always yelling that the sky is falling. Silliness like this, that has been a lament of our Democracy, is the reason why I 'rant' ( ala Demola Majekodunmi). I am infuriated that despite our enormous problems, our politicians can still afford to go on extravagant spending spree; like paying for Tu Face to get married! Seriously? The problems we have in Nigeria are not by accident. They are caused by recklessness and irresponsible actions like this. And there is no plausible way we expect our fate to improve. If we continue to play somnambulists, by condoning blatant madness like this. Tu Face, a "self confessed womanizer" has seven children ( and counting) all over the World, by five different women (and counting). He may be a Superstar, but he is far from being a role model. So what is the message in the music, for him to have a State sponsored wedding? Democracy is beautiful when reverence meets relevance. Where leaders have the fear of GOD and are accountable to MAN. Our political leaders have neither. THIS IS NIGERIA. To make matters more complicated, the electorate, once they get money thrown at them; start to see the glass as half full, instead of EMPTY. As a result, our leaders do not care and you cannot blame them. They dance to the beat of their own drums, regardless of how we feel. Engaging in schemes that are unpopular, so economically unsound and obviously self serving. They know us very well. We are as predictable as the next Nigerian hip hop hit : Same song, same rhythm, same music, different dance. When we are no longer able to change a situation- we are challenged to change ourselves. -Viktor E. Frankl. This one for my adorable twins: Oyinkansola and Oyindamola Ajasa. Happy Birthday.
