MUHAMMADU BUHARI ...........ARISE O'COMPATRIOT, NIGERIA CALL OBEY.

Posted: Updated:

Muhammadu Buhari was guilty as as charged. Fela Anikulapo-Kuti was arrested as he prepared to depart Nigeria for a US tour. The charge was that he was trying to smuggle “foreign currency”, 1500 pounds, (at the time about $2384) out of the country. Unfortunately, this was all too common an occurrence in his native land, and he was sentenced to concurrent five year terms.. CASE NUMBER ONE. Bernard Ogedengbe, Bartholomew Owoh and Lawal Ojulope, were executed because of their involvement in drug peddling after the Buari/Idiaghon regime had promulgated a decree prescribing death penalty for anyone caught drug trafficking. At a time when Nigeria was labelled a cocaine trafficking country.CASE NUMBER TWO. The Umaru Dikko Affair. was a joint Nigerian-Israeli attempt to kidnap Umaru Dikko, a former Nigerian civilian government minister living in the United Kingdom, in 1984, and secretly transport him back to Nigeria in a diplomatic bag. The kidnapping took place, but the transportation was unsuccessful. After it was foiled, the political fallout seriously damaged relations between Nigeria and the United Kingdom for years. Dikko, was an influential Transport Minister in the civilian administration of President Shehu Shagari, his brother-in-law. CASE NUMBER THREE. Muhammadu Buhari, was guilty as charged in trying to “save this nation from imminent collapse” Guilty of bringing order to a country that was in complete chaos. Out of all the splutter of evidence against the ex-General, emerged one fact: once upon a time in Nigeria, there was law and order. " The most fundamental problem of politics is not the control of wickedness , but the limitations of righteousness." Henry Alfred Kissinger. The anti-Buhari coalition is building and they are getting particularly noisy and becoming annoying. We hear things that once elected, he would take us on a crusading Jihad that would turn Nigeria into an Islamic State. Suddenly, the World is flat and Nigerians are not among the most intelligent people in the world. What we we are seeing is coalition of ignorant Nigerians, who are creating a dangerous upheaval against the inevitable change that a Buhari regime will bring. His appreciation for order is a weapon they want to use to blackmail him. Part of the Buhari-phobia is driven by a society where the rich have have gotten ever richer, while every one else struggled. Corruption, abuse of power , greed and selfishness is ingrained in the Nigerian DNA. So we want to continue our comfortable ways while we ignore earthly realities. He has being a proponent of doing what is right in a society where people flaunt their corrupt life style without consequence. Buhari, did not cause the problems of the past six years. President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan did. Yet, we want Buhari to pay for it. To be sure the philosophical underpinnings of the President and ex-General are vastly different. Buhari stands for something while GEJ will fall for anything. We currently have in office a regime that explicitly favor the one per-cent. Tribe and tongues should at this crucial time not differ. In brotherhood we should stand. The things we have in common are more important than the things that divide us. Restoration of the Nigerian value should be our goal, come 2015. The promise of a new dawn often presage more darkness. The problems confronting our country are incredibly challenging, so daunting that we cannot afford to waste four more years. "Patience" and "Goodluck" are not the most vital ingredients to our democracy. In GEJ we have a porous regime. Nigerians are asking "where do we go from here?" The President and his men continue to display a sinister mastery of ineptitude and lying to the people. Commonsense is something absent from their rhetoric. The war on Boko-Haram is consuming our national psyche. There are various explanations, none of them noble, for GEJ's inability to be an effective leader. He is not a politician. On issues that concerns the country, he shows his prevarication. He has surrendered the reins of power to his aides who are all having a ball at his expense. He buys their discombobulated and often useless strategies. Of what use is politics without moral content? Four more years of a continuation of this malarkey, will be the most disastrous social and economic decision we will ever make. It will be particularly painful because we saw it coming. Fixing a country that is broken, is a job description that Buhari is well siuted for. Nigerians yearn for a Government that will tackle its myriad of problems head on. They recall the Buhari/Idiagbon tenure with nostalgia. The pursuit of strategic values to uplift the lives of the common man will be difficult in a democracy that celebrates its immoral exeptionalism. To restore our national dignity, we need Buhari. He is an exemplar of the realist era, guided by moral impulses. So help him God. This one for Oluwabamiwo Ajasa HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you. Omo Ajasa Lamberu. Omo adaru bi ogan. Omo won ni Ibu Ibubatoro.
