YORUBA RONU...........................THE gODS ARE NOT TO BLAME.......

Posted: Updated:

“The good Obas in Yoruba land who are forthright, firm and always stand by the truth are not up to five, they are just three-Oba Awujale, Oba Akiolu and one other.” ASIWAJU BOLA TINUBU. Once upon a time in the ancient Yoruba Kingdom, the Oba was revered. He was the Iku baba yeye. He was the Alase Ekeji Orisa. Most important, he was the Kabiyesi. His words were the last words. He was the father of the town. The monarch those days was a force for good. Fast forward to nowadays and the Obas have become just like Asiwaju Bola Tinubu said; people who are not forthright, not firm and who do not stand by the truth. Tinubu, has sparked a discussion about the relevance of the OBA. He has sowed one of the greatest misapprehensions about these group of people, their relevance and indeed their profligate lifestyles. But the negative images of the Obas predates what the Asiwaju said. Today a lot of people question their relevance and believe that their presence is a cancer to our democracy. The Obas have become weapons- dangerous weapons in the hands of politicians. Once custodians of our culture and values, the Obas are excoriated as selfish and privileged. The royal hangover from the days of the old Yoruba Kingdom has outlived its usefulness. Listen to Oba Rilwan Akiolu talking about the Ooni Of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, “The monarch that made the statement that I lifted crude oil will be shocked when I make certain revelations after the 2015 general election, and I think he should close his eyes in shame because as at that time, I was still serving in the Nigerian Police Force, and I wondered how I would have such time to be involved in crude oil lifting." This is one Oba talking about another Oba. Gone are the days when the hereditary principle of the monarch was respected. Heavyweight political godfathers now play the role of Ifa Oramiragun and rig their party faithfuls to fit the throne. Throwing to the dogs our culture and values. Hence the Obas get on their pay roll and become their "subjects". Begging for contracts and going cap in hand to any important State function. Oba Akiolu, is a product of the power and tremendous power of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. He was imposed for political purpose on the people of Lagos Island. The case is still pending in court. The claimants stated that Oba Akiolu’s branch of Ologunkutere ruling house was unqualified under the Oba of Lagos Customary Law to succeed Oba Adeyinka Oyekan II, who also hailed from the Ologunkutere ruling house. They explained that after the death of Oba Oyekan from Ologunkutere ruling house, the Akinsemoyin ruling house was the only ruling house entitled to present candidate(s) for the consideration of kingmakers of Lagos to succeed the late Oba Oyekan. The Ooni was himself a product of politics and not of culture. The ruling party at that time, Unity Party of Nigeria led by Chief Obafemi Awolowo played the role of the Ifa Oracle in rigging him to the throne. The problem of the Yoruba did not start with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and it will not end with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The title of the Oba should go the way of the corset. What he said about the OBAs is the truth- the absolute truth. Otito oro bi isokuso lori. It is reflective of the people we have become. The depth we have sunk as a people. Pariahs are the people that run the Yoruba Kingdom. People we should look at with ignominy, we call Asiwaju. We proudly flaunts the manacles of of ignorance and poverty. Creating room for for opportunist men to tell us they are ODUDUWAs. "You blocks. You stones. Knew you not Pompey." The arc of the moral universe bends as naive hopes soars. The gods are not to blame, when we call scofflaws like Kayode Fayose, Iyiola Omisore, Babatunde Raji-Fashola, Femi Fani-Kayode, Olabode George and Olagunsoye Oyinlola leaders. Omashe ooo. Owo ti bo ori omo. So Tinubu, should know better.....after all he is the KING of CROO.....opps OBAs............Eniti Oleru lo leru. Yoruba Ronu ooooooo..... THE GIRLS ON MY MIND........ THOSE GIRLS ARE STILL MISSING.... CHAI!!!! THERE IS GOD OOOO..... This one for Oluwaseyi Oduyela. My dear friend, OLUWALOSEYI, Baba ku baba ku. May his soul rest in peace. Iwaju to doriko ada, eyin to fisile kinibaje. — with Bayo Oyekan and 20 others.
