LETTER TO Ose Oyamendan......HOPE DERAILED. ON JUNE 12 WE STAND....

You cannot hide behind one finger. Let the argument begin in earnest: Bashorun MKO Abiola was the greatest President we never had in Nigeria. Discuss. He had the ingredients and the name recognition, more than any President we ever had in Nigeria. Discuss......... MKO was Moses. He was the weapon in the hand of God that took us out of bondage. The ugly sinful truth about Christianity today is that preachers have turned into overpaid motivational speakers. Bible teaching has become as old as the ten commandments. Pastors have turned into Dr Phil, their own words have become the Bible to massage our over pampered ego. MKO Abiola, was never my mentor. But he became my hero. Let us be frank,he gave us the 'gift' of the evil genius, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida. They remained bosom buddies, even after the death of Dele Giwa. He was a military lover. Moses, was raised as an Egyptian Prince. He was part of the Egyptian Elite that used and abused the Israelites. But it was the same Moses the stutterer, that told Pharaoh his best friend,"let my people go." The same way, Abiola the stutterer, told IBB his best friend,"let my people go." MKO, brought us out of jackboots of the junta. But a Moses does not live to see the promised land. Just as a people without God and purpose will forever wander in the wilderness. MKO ABIOLA was a man apart. He was that rare individual. He was never a politician. But for the JUNE 12 cause, he was pugnacious campaigner. He pilloried Basir Tofa, Sanni Abacha and the military. He was a businessman and a philanthropist extraordinaire. Where ever he went, goodness and mercy followed. He was blessed with the uncanny ability to get into the hearts of the people. Democracy and nation building takes blood and magic. On JUNE 12 we spilled blood. Thousands lost their lives. Because we believed in the magic- MKO ABIOLA. The fact that we have allowed that date to slip from idealism to corruption, illuminate the grotesque reality of the kind of people we have become. In a decent country, MKO would have been made a martyr. An emblem of democracy. Attained the stature of a classic hero, for his contribution to our democracy is undeniable. It is not too much to name him the father of a fragmented country; may be he would help stitch us together like he did on JUNE 12. But THIS IS NIGERIA. JUNE 12 has become an apocryphal tale. Contaminated because of our moral cowardice. A victory that resonated around the world is something today's leaders want us to forget. We wear a comfortable blindfold as we follow self centered leaders. People who lack democratic vision but know with the manacles of poverty and chains of ignorance;they have us where they want us. FREE YOUR MINDS my people, their limits are in their intellects, probity and sincerity. Our democracy has gone astray because it is tethered to NOTHING. Not to history. Not to a symbol. We conveniently want to forget how we got here. Our politicians that rode into power on JUNE 12, now want us to believe that it was by their own power and might. MKO Abiola, was a rogue. He was a military lover. He was a womanizer..... But so was the thief that was crucified with Jesus Christ. He made Heaven, because at the point of death, he realized the TRUTH. MKO Abiola at the point of death realized the TRUTH. Besides, on JUNE 12 more than anytime in our history, though tongues and tribe did differ,Nigerians spoke with one voice. It was a referendum that said: ENOUGH WAS ENOUGH. Without JUNE 12. Without MKO Abiola. Without history. Our democracy will continue to be cheese cake. The Israelites' sojourned in the wilderness for forty years. Until they looked up to see JEHOVAH. Look at where we have landed. JUNE 12 should be our symbol. The day the sun stood still. MKO Abiola, the face of our democracy. He was sacrificed so that you, I and generations yet unborn can see tomorrow. Nobody is calling for a coup. We on JAIYEOLA STREET do not want the streets to take over. All we are saying is for us to be ruled with common sense. FOR COMMON SENSE TO RULE. Rest in peace MKO ABIOLA. To live in the hearts of millions that love you is to live forever. SUN REE OO. BABA RERE. ON JUNE 12 WE STAND!!!!! — with Tunde Oyekunle Oyeleke and 19 others.
