LETTER TO DEMOLA MAJEKODUNMI..............AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH.

Posted: Updated:

Damn if we do. Damn us, if we don't. This is our slippery road to Armageddon. Like an horrible Nollywood movie. We now have NYANYA PART TWO (12 DEAD. 19 CRITICALLY INJURED). Just days, after the grotesque PART ONE, that left close to one hundred people dead at the SAME PARK! Just days, after Boko Haram's horrendous abduction of 234 school children. STILL MISSING! Since the inception of the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, the security situation in Nigeria have gotten horrible. Boko Haram, has held the country in its grip with a mix of brutal violence and brazen attacks. The militants Islamist extremists, with its base in Northern Nigeria, has killed over 4,000 Nigerians........ And counting. It's instigated violence has displaced close to half a million people. Hundreds of schools and Government buildings have been destroyed. Also under GEJ, kidnapping, a malady previously unknown to the Nigerian people has rapidly become domesticated. The country, now a kidnapping Mecca, rank sixth in countries notorious for kidnappings. Thousands of kidnappings take place in Nigeria annually-the majority unreported. Armed robbery and "Pen robbery" have also been on an all time high. According to the United States Department of State, Government officials and agencies under GEJ, frequently engage in corrupt practices with impunity. Nigeria with a robust oil industry and flourishing economy, has one of the poorest populations in the world. About 70 % of the nation live on $ 1.25 a day. So sir, the question is not that we "rant" and "posture" via the social media, like Facebook and Twitter. With the above myriad of problems and no solutions in sight the question should be :HOW LOUD AND SHAMELESS, should our "ranting" and "posturing" be? The social media that you so much detest, has become the village square where you judge the public temperature. President Goodluck Jonathan, came here to launch, his now infamous Presidential campaign. We have become the MORAL FORCE of a country that has lost her direction. A Yoruba adage loosely translated goes thus: as long as there is lice on the head. There will always be blood on the finger tip. We ( NOT THE NIGERIAN MEDIA) have become the guiding light navigating Nigerians across the fear boundary. Our leaders (sic) are not proactively addressing known issues like terrorism and corruption, which really complicates matters. Playing chicken by trying to rationalize absolute nonsense will not work. We have to, via social media stem this extreme folly. Our function ( SPEAKING STRICTLY FOR JAIYEOLA STREET), is to follow up the News and RAISE HELL...... So help us God. Glory be to the Lord, we have seen a pretty big interest in the "NONSENSE" we write. A lot of activity in the social media, something that is making our leaders uncomfortable. Thank God. The migration is a start. Next: giving the people who lack the will power, the leverage they need in this our DEMONSTRATION OF CRAZE. Let me share with you sir, a story my father told me: There was a blind old man in a certain village. He goes to the market only during the night time. Whenever, he make his market trips, he always has on him a flashlight. He became the joke of the village. Of course, they saw him as a stupid fellow. What is a blind man doing with a flashlight? One day on his way to the market, he overheard a couple making fun of him. Turning around, the old man gave them a reply they were not expecting. "The Flashlight is not for me", he replied."I am blind. And I know my path to the market. The flashlight," he continued, "is for those of you that have eyes and can see. So that you do not accidentally bump into me." Eighty per cent of us that rant and you see posturing on Facebook, are Nigerians in Diaspora. We are not directly impacted by the mess going on in the country. We write, out of love for our Motherland. We write, out of love for our fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters and great friends like you, living in Nigeria. People whose number can be called any minute. God forbid. Many of you are in panic mode everyday as a result of a Government whose trademark is SORROW, TEARS AND BLOOD. Coupled with its ineffective response to ANY problem. In a country, where the new normal is CHAOS. A country, that just a few years ago was called the "happiest people in the world." Now Nigeria, is a terrorist, failed nation like Somalia, Afghanistan AND Iraq. And you want us to keep quiet...........I GO SHOUT! I GO SHOUT PLENTY OOOOOO!!!!!! Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom. A man can't ride you unless your back is bent. - Dr Martin Luther King — with Tunde Oyekunle Oyeleke and 19 others.
