LETTER TO THEOPHILUS ODENIYI........PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN'S GAMBIT.

Posted: Updated:

Sir, there is a reason why our golden age continue to diminish into twilight - because our demands of present day extravagant lifestyles crowd our needs of the future. Nigerians are among the smartest people in the world. Smart enough to know what a good Government is and how to go about changing a bad Government that affects our lives. But we can condone one, any one, as long as it does not affect our lifestyles. Lets face it, for all our vitriolic talk about CHANGE. How badly do we want CHANGE? Knowing that CHANGE in Nigeria, will translate into EQUAL RIGHTS AND JUSTICE for every Nigerian. The opportunity cost of the CHANGE we talk about, will bring upward mobility, economic opportunities and justice. For a Nigerian to live in a society where that operates, is tantamount to involuntary manslaughter. It is one thing to emphasize CHANGE and make noise about it. It is another thing to be serious about it, when we know CHANGE will mean a upward mobility for the poor and downtrodden. Something we SERIOUSLY do not want. The average Nigerian lives on a lonely island of abject poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of prosperity and ostentation. The Central Government is weak and does not respect individual liberty. Lets be realistic about it, we love it that way. An environment that gives us the opportunity to live life as we please, atop the social ladder. Wallow in corruption without any malaise. We love it when we can say to the world " I better pass my neighbor." SORROW, TEARS and BLOOD has been the trademark of the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan administration. We have seen the best of this man, God forbid will see the rest of him. But look around, the best we have to offer Nigerians is the odd couple, marriage of convenience team of Muhammadu Buhari, 71 and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu 62. One, an unapologetic autocrat. The other an unapologetic plutocrat. The grotesque dilemma of an avoidable catastrophe. Once again sir, how badly do we want this CHANGE we talk about? With an administration as reprehensible as the one led by our man GEJ, how serious is the APC when they talk about CHANGE. The Buhari/Tinubu team should make a virtue of their narcissism, by stepping back from politics and promoting modernizers and revolutionary politicians to the fore. Nigeria, at this point of her tortured history; deserves better than what APC is bringing to the table. We deserve better than what PDP has brought to the table. Our politicians as presently constituted, are clearly out of touch with reality. They regard money-and most have lots of it- as their ticket to getting elected. The sad calculus of our Swiss cheese Democracy, like I wrote earlier "is that, lots of money will defeat lots of people every time." The politicians owe much of their success to the oddities of our political system. Micheal Bloomberg, spent over $300 million of his personal money to get elected and effect CHANGE in New York. How many Nigerian politicians are willing to put their money where their mouth is to defeat the chequered PDP and good for nothing Goodluck Jonathan. Leaders who stand for nothing, will fall for anything. Great ideas originate in muscles, Thomas Edison wrote. Question, where is the muscle in a Buhari/Tinubu Presidential campaign? Modernizing technocrats?......... Please give me a break! In conclusion sir, perception is reality. Nigeria will not get any better. Not now or in the distant future because we love it just as bad as it is. It suits us just fine to have a repugnant administration in power and waiting with bated breath to replaced it with another cringe-worthy one. Nation building requires magic, sweat and blood. We are not prepared for that sacrifice. It will affect our ostentatious lifestyle. We cannot afford it. We are extremely adept in speaking a discourse we love to listen to. We forget that the awful responsibility of being a Nigerian is : though tongue and tribe may differ, in brotherhood we should stand. More than 80 people were killed in the Nyanya Park barbarous bomb blast. What did we do? Close to 200 school children are still missing. What are we doing? We have a Government that is taking us to the abyss. It cannot be better. It can only get worse. What are our demands to our inept Congressmen to do on our behalf? "If only we have had the JJ Rawlings experience." "If only Biafra had been a country." "How sweet it will be if a Yoruba Nation can emerge from the ruin of Nigeria." Hypothetical poppycock. Nonsensical mumbo jumbo. We pretend not to see how much money Yoruba and Igbo leaders have made, taking advantage of their vulnerable people. Truth: Nigeria is a country were every man is for himself, forgetting that God is looking at us all. CHANGE will never come to a Nation unwilling to compromise a sinful lifestyle of not loving their neighbor as themselves. CHANGE will never come to a Nation unwilling to shed blood to achieve magic. CHANGE will come when objective reality diverge from illusion and fantasy. We have become a Kim Kardashian Nation. A country where palatable rubbish trump pragmatism, ideology and intellectual substance. And that sir, is President Goodluck Jonathan 's gambit. He will win, come 2015. He knows WE THE PEOPLE dare not rock the boat. Especially, a boat we have rigged and turned into a Yacht from which we can scorn the basement. Look down down on the poor and tell the World " I better pass my neighbor." Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds. - BOB MARLEY. — with Tunde Oyekunle Oyeleke and 19 others.
